EIMP participated in the 3rd Conference against Disinformation, organised by our funding member CLABE, on 23 October 2025.
EIMP Executive Director Mihailo Jovetic shared the EIMP’s perspective on how well-designed and effectively implemented media and technology policies can promote media pluralism and sustainable growth — thereby helping to curb the reach and impact of disinformation. In an era of AI and shifting geopolitics, policymaking must balance economic opportunity with the protection of freedom of expression, privacy, and intellectual property.
Across a full day of panels and debates, more than 40 experts examined how misinformation is reshaping public trust, journalism, and democratic discourse across Europe and the United States.
The event explored the role of media associations, the importance of media literacy as a key defence through critical thinking and digital skills, and the growing need for collaboration and transparency among fact-checkers. Speakers also highlighted the value of cooperation between public and private entities in safeguarding information integrity, and considered how technological disruption and artificial intelligence are transforming the news ecosystem.
Above all, the discussions emphasised that defending ethical, professional journalism is essential to protecting democracy itself. The main takeaway was clear: disinformation is a structural problem that requires shared responsibility, cross-sector collaboration, and a long-term commitment to truth and trust in the digital age.
